What is Engineering? | Types of Engineering

What is Engineering?

Engineering is the field of Science which deals with the design, building, and uses of machines to produce better results. Engineers are the practitioner of this field. They build, design, analyze, and test machines and use them to produce better results. Engineering is an occupation with an extremely wide reach. Its study is limitless. Therefore it is divided into further branches. A single person cannot grip on all the branches of Engineering as a whole. So a person who gets specialized in a particular branch of Engineering is considered to be a specific Engineer.
A good Engineer is one who understands the scientific problem, think about that and after using its scientific knowledge gives a proper solution. In this modern world, we can see that how the world has changed due to scientific inventions. You can see that now we can connect to people all around the world at distant places using mobile phones, we can travel all around the world in few hours due to air traveling (invention of the airplane), now we can overcome the hotness of summer using air conditioners and a lot of inventions. All these inventions have made human life easier, time saving and comfortable.

Branches of Engineering:

As mentioned above Engineering is a vast field and a single person cannot go through all the Science, therefore, it is divided into branches. A person cannot even grip a single branch throughout but learn a lot of it. Engineering is divided into four mother technologies:
1. Chemical
2. Electrical
3. Civil
4. Mechanical
The above mention types of Engineering are called mother technologies because all the other types of Engineering Technologies are their sub-branches e.g. Polymer, Environmental, Metallurgical, Mining, Petroleum Engineering are the sub-branches of Chemical Engineering.

Overview of Types of Engineering:

Let's take a brief introduction to every type of Engineering.

1. Electrical Engineering:

In this branch usually, machinery using Electricity is studied. It is very vast and important branch of Engineering. This field contributes to the Global Positioning System to Electricity Generation. Nowadays Electricity is a basic need of human beings and even they can't think to live without it. A person with Electrical Engineering can do specialization in Electronics, Telecommunications, and power. Every component that we use and consume electricity is the invention of Electrical Technology. Some Major inventions of this field include Television, Air Conditioner, Laptops, Mobile Phones, Electronic Chips, House Hold types of machinery.

2. Chemical Engineering:

This is the vastest type of Engineering. Chemical Engineering is the branch which use the principles of Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Applied Physics to convert Raw materials into useful products so that they can be utilized by human beings. Chemical Engineers design Types of equipment and Types of machinery utilized in Industries to produce better products. Their major work is to enhance the production keeping the product economical. Chemical Engineers take a look at the processes and operations taking place in an industry and control them.

3. Mechanical Engineering:

This branch includes the study of principles of Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Engineering Materials and uses them to produce types of machinery. Mechanical Engineers manufactures power-producing machines such as Electrical Generator, Steam and Gas Turbines, Internal combustion Engines etc and power consuming machines such as refrigerators and air conditioning systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest disciplines of Engineering.

4. Civil Engineering:

It is the major and oldest discipline of Engineering because it includes the design, construction, supervision, maintenance of naturally, physically and infrastructures of public sector projects like roads, bridges, flyovers, dams, buildings, towers, airports, irrigation projects, power supply system etc.
